A new 15million scheme to help home-owners in serious mortgage arrears has been launched by the Government.
The service, called Abhaile, will offer a financial and legal lifeline to those who are deeply indebted and will be free for those who qualify.
Before someone can qualify they must be a mortgage-holder who is in serious arrears and insolvent.
The new service will offer free financial and legal advice and the aim is to keep people in their homes.
The scheme was officially launched today by Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald and Social Protection Minister Varadkar.
Minister Fitzgerald said that while the number of people in mortgage arrears is doing down there are still 35,000 accounts in arrears of 720 days or more.
