A lawyer who brought false claims against British soldiers who fought in Iraq has had his bankruptcy extended by five years after he tried to avoid paying creditors by transferring almost £500,000 of assets to his family.
Phil Shiner, 61, was struck off as a solicitor last year after he was found guilty of professional misconduct for drumming up dishonest claims of torture, abuse and murder against hundreds of Iraq war veterans. His now defunct law firm, Public Interest Lawyers, brought the majority of more than 3,000 abuse claims to the governments Iraq Historic Allegations Team.
