Almost 200 people have received personal 1m-plus debt write-offs in the past two-and-a-half years.
Figures provided by the Insolvency Service of Ireland (ISI) confirm 197 people have had a million euro or more written off since the last three months of 2020.
Those numbers peaked last year, with 31 write-offs of 1m or more in the second quarter of 2022, and 23 in the third. This represented about 13% of all debt written off through Personal Insolvency Arrangements (PIAs) in those periods.
The ISI said it could not provide figures for the number of million-plus write-offs before the final quarter of 2020.
