Captain Daniel Lang says he is happy to have a job at his local supermarket after working as a pilot at Virgin Australia for the last 12 years.
In a statement to the ASX this morning, the airline announced it had entered voluntary administration.
“It’s been a very tumultuous time,” Captain Lang told Virginia Trioli.
“Unfortunately it will be the travelling public that pays for it, if there is a monopoly left in Australia.”
After being stood down towards the end of March, Captain Lang updated his resume and drove around to local supermarkets looking for work.
“I never thought anything like that was beneath me, at the end of the day it gives me a purpose,” he said.
“I can put some food on the table for my family, and my two kids.”
