Twenty staff have been stood down as a result.
Alan Walker and Glenn Livingstone of WLP Restructuring Partners were appointed to parent company Chocolate & Confectionery Company Pty Ltd on Wednesday, and are moving to find potential buyers or investors.
“The administrators are seeking urgent expressions of interest from parties that could recapitalise or acquire the business and its assets,” a statement provided to 9News.com.au said.
Established in 1914, Ernest Hillier is currently stocked in stores around Australia and New Zealand, including major supermarkets Woolworths, Coles and Aldi.
The company has a factory in Coburg where it manufactures chocolate for other confectionary brands.
It went into voluntary administration before, going up for sale in 2015.
