STUDENTS at the gold coast’s three Careers Australia campuses turned up to class to find the doors locked and phones unanswered yesterday.
Classes at the Nerang, Burleigh and Southport campuses have been suspended indefinitely and 45 local teachers are out of jobs after the company went into voluntary administration.
Stephanie Langford was about two weeks off completing a certificate IV in Ageing Support when she turned up yesterday and couldn’t get inside her Burleigh classroom.
Ms Langford, 26, said some students had received text messages the night before telling them not to bother coming in, but that her class hadn’t had any communication.
“All the doors were locked and students doing other classes were waiting outside,” she said.
“There were people inside but they wouldn’t come outside to tell us what was going on.
“It’s disappointing because we were almost finished our course.”
Ms Langford joins up to 15,000 students across Australia who are uncertain of whether they will be able to complete their training.
The company racked up more than $500 million in government-subsidised student loans in three years and was among the most aggressive recruiters of students under the now dumped VET FEE-HELP scheme.
