KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,093 civil servants were declared bankrupt last year, as compared to 960 in the previous year, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said 3,276 civil servants were declared bankrupt between 2013 and 2016.
She was responding to a question from Lim Lip Eng (DAP-Segambut) at the Dewan Rakyat today.
Azalina said records from the Department of Insolvency for 2013-2016 showed that 82,383 Malaysians were declared bankrupt by the court.
Of the total, Selangor recorded the highest number of cases at 22,593, while Perlis recorded the lowest with 354 cases.
