Productivity Commission expected to call for penalty rates overhaul
The commission was expected to make the call in their final report on workplace relations that was due on Monday.
The final report from the commission is expected to recommend changes to Sunday penalty rates to bring some industries in line with time-and-a-half paid on Saturdays, reducing overall pay.
The Federal Opposition and unions are preparing to fight against the proposed changes – labelling it an attack against the lowest paid workers in Australia.
Business groups are saying that the move would ease pressure on retail and fast food sectors – with some suggesting that the savings could be used to hire more employees.
