
Michigan authorities say a former Buick-GMC dealership employee sentenced this week for embezzlement stole more than $400,000 to cover her gambling debt.
Amanda Root, 42, of St. Johns, Mich., was found guilty on one count of embezzlement of $100,000 or more and two counts of filing false tax returns, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said. She was sentenced to 42 months in prison and ordered to pay $459,645.70 in restitution to the owner of the former Glenn Buege Buick-GMC Lansing, the dealership’s insurance companies and the Michigan Department of Treasury.
