BlueScope Steel said stronger steel demand and higher prices have seen its half-year profit surge.
Net profit rose by nearly 80 per cent to $359 million for the six months to the end of December compared to the first half of 2016.
Sales revenue rose by 17 per cent to $5.1 billion. Before tax earnings jumped to $604 million for the half year, as indicated by the company last month.
The result was helped by a big fall in asset write-downs, more cost cutting, as well as lower redundancy and restructuring costs.
