A failed businesswoman “buried her head in the sand” after going bankrupt and failed to reply to repeated requests for evidence of her assets by the insolvency service. A judge told mother-of-three Karen Achilleos she “closed her eyes” to letter after letter from the authorities after her bespoke cabinet-making business went bust.
Derby Crown Court heard how the 54-year-old, of Burton, ended up paying back more than 43,000 but additional costs and claims escalated her debt to a figure of more than 90,000. And instead of answering the calls for information, she chose instead to ignore them until she ended up being prosecuted.
