Combating the dark cycle of debt that traps many low-income families, the United Methodist Church and the Texas Catholic Conference have joined together to lobby for regulations on car title loan companies and payday lenders in Texas.
Its just unbelievable; I just shake my head, said Mark Love, outreach minister at Central Church of Christ in Amarillo, about the way lenders have taken advantage of those borrowing money.
But through Care Central, a financial assistance program provided through Central Church of Christ, Love said community members from outside the church can receive financial help with utility bills, emergency gas money, birth certificates, state IDs, drivers licenses and prescription drugs.
