The total number of Scottish business failures fell by 4 per cent last year, but there was a sharp rise in the final quarter.
KPMG said that it had recorded 902 corporate insolvency appointments in 2015, down from 943 in 2014 and the high of 1,287 from 2011.
However, there was an increase in liquidations and administrations in final three months of last year, when there was a 30 per cent year-on-year rise in insolvency appointments. Compared with the previous three months, there was a 55 per cent increase from 177 to 275.
