A crisis-hit council is expected to cut vital services after being effectively declared bankrupt.
Northamptonshire County Council will meet today to discuss a radical cost-cutting proposal in response to its £70 million budget shortfall.
Proposals to be discussed include redundancies and radical cuts to areas including childrens services, road maintenance and waste management.
Anne Longford, the childrens commissioner, warned of catastrophic consequences” if the council moves to cut children’s services.
In April, the Government sent commissioners to run the cash-strapped council after it revealed a projected overspend of £21m for 2017-18.
