Combatting climate change has gone from a nice idea to an economic necessity, and the sooner we accept this reality, the better off well be.
The harsh reality of economic loss by climate change hit AAA insurance recently when it stopped renewing some home and auto policies in hurricane-plagued Florida. The insurer wouldnt say how many policies it did not renew, but said they were a very small percentage in areas that were high exposure.
Last years hurricanes brought devastating losses and led to an unprecedented rise in reinsurance rates, the company said. That made it costly to operate and caused it to abandon some policies, according to a report in the Associated Press.
