PARIS (Reuters) – France’s highest administrative court on Friday
canceled an extradition order to send jailed Kazakh tycoon
Mukhtar Ablyazov to Russia on the grounds that the request was
made for political reasons.
Ablyazov, who was arrested in France in 2013, is accused of
embezzling up to $6 billion from his former bank BTA.
The decision by the Conseil d’Etat cancels the extradition order
signed by then-Prime Minister Manuel Valls in 2015, which gave
the green light to send Ablyazov either to Ukraine or Russia.
