It’s about GPs not being at the selected specialty by graduates from Australian medical schools. In fact, Mel, about 30 years ago, 40 per cent of all graduates of Australian medical schools went into general practice and that was the situation when I started in medicine. But about six years ago, that number had fallen to only 17 per cent. And in an important study conducted by the RACGP in 2022, the number had fallen to 13.1 per cent. And we’re estimating that this year it might be as low as 12 per cent or below. That’s a huge drop off in the number of young doctors selecting general practices, their preferred specialty.
