The government may be preparing to crack down on addictive gambling machines despite claims earlier this year that the Treasury had killed off an attempt to impose tighter regulation.
Campaigners have warned that fixed-odds betting terminals, which allow gamblers to bet up to £100 every 20 seconds, can lead people into heavy debt and also lead to crime.
Ministers hinted before the election that the maximum stake could be reduced to £2 but in August a review of the law was delayed until October amid reports of a row with the Treasury, which was said to have killed off the review …
