As HMV stores close their doors for the last time, staff have now left without their redundancy payments because the parent company, Hilco, has now gone into liquidation itself.
The move effectively means that the staff must now apply to the State to get their redundancy payments, a process that may take months.
Staff members said that they had received a letter from the company stating that they would receive payment today, September 9. However, the company did not honor this committment.
It is the second time that Hilco engages in a similar subterfuge to get out of paying out redundancies. They employed a similar tactic when Xtra-Vision stores were closed.
