Another melbourne building company has collapsed, leaving homeowners in limbo and suppliers owed millions.
Alpha Building Group Pty Ltd went into liquidation late last week with insolvency firm Rogers Reidy telling News.com.au the company owed $3.5 million to more than 100 creditors.
Of this, the company reportedly owes $2.5 million to suppliers of materials and just under $1 million to sub-contractors. The remaining $15,000-to-$20,000 is owed to consultants.
Ten homeowners have been left with unfinished building projects by the collapse with one father of three telling News.com.au his family had been left “devasted” by the news, having paid $350,000 towards their $1.8 million dream home
“Me and my wife have been saving for six years, we’ve just started a new business, it’s really come at a terrible time,” the 39-year-old father said.
Based in the leafy suburb of Camberwell, in Melbourne’s east, the Alpha Building Group has been a registered business since 2005.
However the company has progressively shed its seven staff over the past six months, with the sole remaining employee not related to the directors turning up to work on January 15 to find out the company had ceased trading.
