The number of people seeking debt relief has almost doubled compared to last year, as rules protecting insolvency arrangements from bank objections continued to make themselves felt.
The third quarter of the year saw a continued upturn in applications to the Insolvency Service of Ireland (ISI) with 899 people seeking debt arrangements 22 per cent more than the previous three months. 458 such applications were received in the same period last year.
Almost eight in ten new applications made during the third quarter were personal insolvency arrangements designed to keep homeowners in their properties and return them to solvency.
