The number of Protective Certificates for debtors issued by the courts showed a small decrease in 2022, according to the annual report of Insolvency Service Ireland (ISI).
The reduction to 1,151 from 1,221 the previous year is attributed by ISI to Covid lockdown impacts, as Personal Insolvency Practitioners (PIPs) continue to assess the need for debtors to make applications in some cases until debtors circumstances had settled somewhat.
The number of debt Arrangements approved by the courts decreased by 9.8% to 1,076. ISI said the decline is linked to the lower numbers of applications being submitted to ISI, as well as cases originally due to be considered by the courts being settled through negotiations with creditors.
