Just as local resident thought the clean-up of the Lara tip was going well, the new owners of the site have revealed they are in liquidation.
The Australian Sawmilling Company (TASCO) took over the site from C&D Recycling, who refused to pay over $300,000 in tax debt.
Former owner/operator David McAuliffe was recently handed a jail term of 40 days, which he will appeal.
However, the timeline on the Lara tip, which is filled with potentially toxic substances, tyres and asbestos, could be further delayed.
The EPA and City of Greater Geelong have both pushed hard for the tip to be cleared, with a timeline of 12 months proposed for the clean-up.
