An afternoon recovery led by the big banks faded into the close, leading to another indifferent day on the ASX as investors ponder the next step for financial markets, although shareholders in energy stocks had something to cheer about as oil lifted.
The ASX 200 dropped 8 points or 0.2 per cent to 5351, while the Aussie dollar, which has also been wallowing of late, struggled at around 73.3 US cents.
The big corporate news was Boral‘s US acquisition, which came with a capital raising, leaving the stock halted for now.
