A COMPANY which laid off 45 staff back in June this year is now going into liquidation, with former workers still awaiting entitlement payments of over $400,000.
Geiger Electrical laid off workers in Mackay, Townsville, Harvey Bay, Yeppoon and Rockhampton in June, but entitlements are still owed.
Management said the initial redundancies were due to a Queensland Government decision to merge Ergon and Energex earlier this year.
Organiser with the Electrical Trades Union, Dan McGaw, says the company promised to pay all entitlements by July, but the announcement of the liquidation yesterday leaves over $400,000 owing to former staff.
