State Representative Dan Ramos (D-Lorain) introduced the Ohio Learn Tax credit on Thursday. He hopes it will address the issue of college affordability plaguing families across the state.
“This could be one of the biggest tax breaks in Ohio history. This will essentially lower the cost of a college education to 90% for parents,” he said.
The average college student nationwide is carrying $39,400 in school debt, which is up six percent from 2016. Delinquency rates for college loans are at 11.2 percent and most debtors are 90-days delinquent.
Kendra Burt says she’s learning a lot as a Freshman at Ohio State including how much it costs to attend.
She, like most college students, expects to be thousands of dollars in debt when she graduates.
