REVELATIONS of the extent of tax avoidance being practised by some of Australia’s wealthiest individuals puts lie to claims by our Federal Treasurer the nation does not have a revenue problem.
The so-called Panama Papers are likely to be just a section of a maze of avoidance including earlier revelations of iconic brands willing and able because of complex and poorly-framed legislation to shift revenue through licensing agreements to low tax jurisdictions.
It is a relatively simple proposition to suggest that tax should be paid on revenue earned in Australia.
At least it was becoming clear this week politicians of all persuasions are beginning to realise there are serious issues of probity in corporate Australia.
