The Palaszczuk government has committed an extra $360 million to tackle persistently high unemployment in regional cities such as Townsville and Cairns.
Despite the state’s bottom line being boosted by $1.2 billion courtesy of a surge in coal prices, slowing jobs growth is expected to be the biggest headache for the minority Labor government over the next 12 months.
