The popular burger chain Getta Burger entered liquidation on Thursday, which has resulted in 107 staff members in search of a new job as 14 locations across brisbane shut their doors.
The burger chain owes upwards of $500,000 in payroll tax, and BRI Ferrier liquidator Ian Currie believes there are other tax debts.
Mr Currie told news.com.au lease agreements connected to the 14 locations are another “one of the other large liabilities”.
Getta Burger founder Brent Poulter set up the burger chain with his wife, Amy Poulter, in 2014.
Mr Poulter said the reasons behind the burger chain’s downfall were inflation and the associated rising food costs.
In a statement he said: “Like many small businesses across the state and the country, our stores have felt the full impact of the rising cost of living.”
Mr Poulter said food costs have risen considerably with customers no longer spending on takeaway food, noting the location of the stores are within a mortgage-belt area with many young families.
