Clive Palmer says it will be up to the sacked workers of Queensland Nickel to decide whether they want their jobs back when the north Queensland refinery reopens next year.
The businessman-turned-politician insists the Yabulu nickel refinery, near Townsville, will reopen on March 31 next year after regulatory and commercial requirements are met.
About 800 workers were sacked during the refinery’s collapse earlier this year.
Mr Palmer says he can’t predict how many of those workers will be re-employed.
“Well, of course, that’s up to them – the workers – they can decide where they want to work,” he told ABC Radio on Thursday.
“We can’t make them come back.”
