Appointed liquidators Hamilton Murphy will be working to recoup costs for the 330 creditors, who are owed more than $100 million. The SKM group has been in external administration since August.
SKM abruptly stopped accepting household recycling from more than 30 councils in late July after the Environment Protection Authority ordered another SKM-linked company, Glass Recovery Services, to stop taking material at its Coolaroo plant.
Brimbank, Moonee Valley and melbourne councils announced on September 23 that their recycling had been taken to SKM’s former Laverton North plant after the receivers KordaMetha cleared more than 10,000 tonnes of stockpiled waste from the site over three weeks.
SKM’s recycling services for Port Phillip and Hobsons Bay councils resumed on Monday.
Port Phillip mayor Dick Gross said the council would have a recycling contract with the company until it was sold, but had started discussions with other contractors.
“We’ve done a deal with SKM administrators and we’ve been recycling for a week, so whilst they control the asset, we’ve got recycling happening,” he said.
