BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) Prosecutors have indicted a pioneer in Romania’s post-communist media market and ten others with tax evasion, instigation to tax evasion and money laundering.
The prosecutor’s office said Friday that Adrian Sarbu, founder of the Mediafax Group in 1991, Mediafax itself, former managers, finance directors and a lawyer have been sent to trial on charges of money laundering, tax evasion and embezzlement.
Prosecutors say from 2006 to 2014 Sarbu instituted “an unwritten law not to pay taxes,” costing the state 61 million lei ($15.36 million) in unpaid taxes.
They allege Sarbu hid personal income from 2009 to 2014, resulting in tax evasion worth 11.23 million lei ($2.83 million). Sarbu…
