The Alice Springs sub-branch of the RSL has closed its doors indefinitely after it was unable to repay a multi-million-dollar debt.
The club was placed under voluntary administration on Monday with casual staff told their final shift was last night.
Alice Springs RSL vice president Shane Caden said it was a “sombre mood” for the committee and staff and it was likely the RSL would sell the building on Schwarz Crescent to recover some of the debt, including paying staff.
“Two weeks ago we received a letter from the administrators to pay them quite a hefty sum, within 14 days, which we couldn’t meet,” he said.
