A rural farm-based restaurant in Pudong New Area was reported to operate gambling activities in its basement. On October 9, a gambler contacted local police claiming that he had lost his savings and was in debt after gambling at the site for one month, the Metro Express reported.
The police quickly carried out measures to crack down on the gambling operation. During the investigation, authorities found that the site was surrounded on three sides by waterways, which the criminals could use to escape.
After analyzing the situation, about 50 police officers surrounded the entire premises. The owners and some gangsters armed with weapons were all arrested. The three bosses had illegally earned around 200,000 yuan ($29,542) since opening.
