The combative former BHS owner also admitted selling the chain to the wrong guy as he was grilled by MPs at Westminster for nearly six hours.
At one point he threatened to walk out in protest at what he claimed was a disgusting and rude insult and bizarrely told another MP to stop staring at him.
He repeatedly insisted he had not turned up to cast blame at others before suggesting a host of other people he believed the MPs should be questioning about being asleep at the wheel.
He had threatened not to appear before the joint inquiry by the Commons Work and Pensions and Business Committees, claiming there was bias against him.
