Keith Flynn was the principal of Keith Flynn & Co, which had offices in Cork and Dublin.
Another solicitor who worked for the firm, former Fine Gael local election candidate Lyndsey Clarke, also had her practising certificate suspended before Christmas.
They were simultaneously suspended last month by the court’s president, Mr Justice Peter Kelly, pending a further order. It has now emerged that Mr Flynn, with an address at The Cottages, Barrington’s Avenue, Ballintemple, was declared bankrupt in the High Court on January 16.
The Law Society of Ireland – which regulates solicitors – has refused to say why Mr Flynn and Ms Clarke were suspended from practice.
