Former One Nation Senator Rod Culleton has been declared bankrupt in the Federal Court in Perth, a ruling which could end his term in the Senate.
Mr Culleton, who recently left the One Nation party and planned to serve as an independent, was in court over a $280,000 debt owed to a creditor.
If the bankruptcy verdict is upheld, by law Mr Culleton would be disqualified from serving as a senator.
He has 21 days to appeal the ruling in the Federal Court
Mr Culleton told Judge Michael Barker, “you’ve executed me” as the ruling was announced.
