Internet rallies to help Nelly’s tax debt, school dance nostalgia ensues – CNET

Nelly — the St. Louis rapper, facial bandage wearer and official party maker of your middle/high-school dances — owes the IRS a lot of money: $2.4 million to be exact.

In an optimistic effort to help him out, fans are streaming his albums on services like Spotify and Tidal nonstop. Rallying under the hashtag #SaveNelly and #HotInHerreStreamingParty (a reference to his 2002 hit, “Hot in Herre”), users are taking to Twitter to voice their support.

According to Spotify’s own figures, the payout to rights holders of songs get anywhere between $0.006 and $0.0084 per stream. Spin crunched the nu…
