The business behind KOI Dessert Bar in melbourne, known for its luxurious, highly creative, and visually stunning treats, entered voluntary administration earlier this month.
The cakes sold at the Poernomo family-run dessert shop – which also has two venues in sydney – were made famous by Reynold on MasterChef in 2015, which saw him crowned the nation’s “Dessert King” after he placed fourth on the cooking show.
It comes after another Poernomo family-run business, that took in Monkey’s Corner in Chippendale, Sydney, entered liquidation in May, owing almost $500,000 to creditors, including to suppliers, the tax office and in unpaid super.
Poernomo opened Monkey’s Corner with his brothers Ronald and Arnold in 2017, but the Japanese-inspired bar suddenly shut up shop after seven years.
Managing director of KOI Dessert Bar, brother Ronald, told News Corp that the Melbourne venue, located at 100 Queen St, was continuing to trade during the administration process.
“KOI Dessert Bar has since begun the process of seeking a new licensed retailer to take over the Melbourne location, in line with our commitment to uphold the quality and reputation of the KOI brand,” he said.
