Restaurant chain Din Tai Fung has confirmed one of its stores has entered into voluntary administration as one of the latest victims of the COVID-19 pandemic-triggered retail apocalypse.
Chifley Advisory Australia has been appointed as the administrators of the chain’s sydney Central Park store, Yahoo Finance can confirm.
Din Tai Fung opened its first Australian restaurant in 2008 at its flagship World Square Sydney restaurant.
Founded in Taiwan in 1956 and setting up shop across the world, Din Tai Fung has 10 stores in Australia, 9 of which are in Sydney.
Yahoo Finance understands all other stores are still currently trading.
While the pandemic has forced several retail chains into administration, the chain has also had to contend with recent underpayment allegations.
In August last year, the Fair Work Ombudsman launched legal action against three store operators over alleged underpayment of vulnerable migrant workers of more than $157,000.
The operators also provided the FWO with false records that understated hours worked and falsifying casual pay rates.
