West perth officials will spend the next two weeks attempting to raise at least $200,000 in an emergency fund as they prepare for the creditors’ meeting that will decide the future of the club.
That could include a one-off jumper sponsor for the televised match against East Perth next month.
President Scott Ballem confirmed that WA’s oldest football club had debts of $790,000 when it went into voluntary administration this week.
The Falcons must also repay a $250,000 loan from the WA Football Commission to guarantee staff and player payments for the rest of the season.
“We have two weeks to come up with enough money to stay afloat,” Ballem said.
“We will have several fund-raising meetings next week to determine how we proceed.
“I am confident we will succeed, but we need help from our members and supporters.”
West Perth’s debt has been building in recent years, but it has become unmanageable after a drop in revenue this year.
The creditors’ meeting in August will decide whether the club takes part in a repayment scheme or has to be wound up.
