Pascoe Vale’s RSL club has gone bust, with administrators called in to work out a rescue plan, and there are fears five more clubs across melbourne could follow.
Liberal Senator Alex Antic discusses an appeal from RSL Victoria of $840,000 for ANZAC Day celebrations. “The answer to that is because this government is horribly out of touch; if you ask any man, woman or child if the RSL had to do that and, the answer would be no,” Mr Antic told Sky News host Peta Credlin. “They can find the money when they want to. It’s just that it has got to be something which suits them and their cause, and this does not seem to be it. “It’s tragic, and the RSL, I hope, gets all the help they need because it is a critical day for us, ANZAC Day.”
Pascoe Vale RSL, which has been supporting returned veterans since 1948, entered voluntary administration last week with the branch unable to pay its mounting debts.
In a letter to members, President Brian McNaughton said the move was “regrettable” but hoped appointing an administrator would give the club “a chance of survival”.
Sources told the Herald Sun it was not the only Victorian club struggling to keep its doors open with five other branches across the city struggling.
