For Valley insurance company Penn Treaty, it’s the beginning of the end – Allentown Morning Call

If it feels like Penn Treaty American Corp. has been here before, well, that’s because it has.

This time, however, the Salisbury Township provider of long-term care policies is heading toward a much different outcome: court-ordered liquidation.

While that might sound grim, government officials and industry experts say Penn Treaty’s 170 employees and 78,000 customers nationwide, including 10,000 in Pennsylvania, will be spared the worst.

The Wall Street Journal recently described Penn Treaty’s expected demise as “one of the nation’s costliest insurance failures ever,” ranking second-biggest in the life-health category. The company has $600 million in assets to co…
