A major South East Queensland construction firm employing more than 75 staff has been forced into liquidation, abruptly shutting its doors and leaving workers facing an uncertain future.
Open Projects Group (OPG), described as the region’s largest full-service shop-fitting company, was placed into liquidation by creditors this week.
Director Kane McCarthy broke the news to employees in an email seen by the gold coast Bulletin, telling staff that “from this point forward, (liquidators) will be responsible for managing the business closure and all employee entitlements”.
He said Robson Cotter Insolvency Group, which has been appointed liquidator, would contact workers directly with details about “any remaining employee entitlements”, “the next steps in the process” and “how eligible employees can access the Fair Entitlements Guarantee for any outstanding amounts”.
“I’m deeply sorry that this is how things have ended,” Mr McCarthy said.
“This outcome is not a reflection of your work or commitment, and I regret the impact this situation has had on you and your families.”
